00 Project challenge, Take these tubes and make circus drum like training aids.
01 The project begins: 25 disks to be cut from MDO and exterior plywood.
02 Constructing templates to expedite the repetitive manufacturing process.
07 An absolutely centerd hole is drilled in every disk.
05 Center hole in each disk will be used to align the disks on a central axle.
08 3 indexing holes are drilled in each set of disks for alignment purposes.
20 Let's see, I need 5 more of these in 2 more colors.
21 Who dreamed up this pattern with all the lines, curves and intersections?
22 Here we go... last yellow wheel.
23 My OCD kicks in for clean lines between colors.
25 I don't even want to know how many times I've masked this wheel.
26 Just about done with yellow. Red and Green to go.
30 Starting assembly of large drum. Needs additional interior supports.
31 Same person's brilliant idea to align 4 dowels in 4 holes in 7 supports.
32 So much fun... fill each drum with gooey, sticky, low expansion foam.
33 Sure takes a lot of foam to completely fill one of these drums.
34 Damn, another can empty. Are you sure we closed the bottom?
40 There, finally, 3 drums, disk reinforced and foam filled.
41 Looks like the foam wasn't so low expansion afterall.
42 2 Days later and a little sunshine to heat things up.
43 Hopefully the foam will cure soon and stop this light weeping.
44 Looks like things are slowing down. The drums clean up nicely.
45 If they stay like this, they'll be ready for carpeting and end caps.
46 Strong enough for an elephant and still light enough to easily move around.
50 Preparing to carpet the outer surface. Really sticky carpet tape.
51 It wants to stick to fingers more than the drum surface.
52 A nice black short pile carpet will provide good grip for the dog's paws.
53 I knew my upholstery skills would be useful some day.
54 Completed drum, waiting for colorful circus wagon wheels to be mounted.
